Thai Dragon Chilli is a highly productive Asian chilli variety prized for its fiery heat, compact growth and abundance of attractive red fruits.

Plants produce numerous slender chillies that generally grow upright above the foliage, ripening from green to a vivid red. Despite its relatively compact habit, Thai Dragon can produce an impressive crop throughout the season.

The fruits have a strong, clean chilli heat with plenty of flavour, making them particularly well suited to Thai and other Southeast Asian cooking. Use them fresh in stir-fries and curries, add them to sauces and marinades, or dry them for flakes and chilli powder.

Thai Dragon is also an attractive plant in its own right, with the clusters of bright red chillies giving mature plants an ornamental appearance. It performs well in pots, greenhouses and polytunnels and can also be grown outdoors in a warm, sheltered position.

Growing Information

Sowing: January–April Germination: Usually 7–21 days at approximately 24–28°C Planting Position: Full sun, greenhouse, polytunnel or warm sheltered position Harvest: Approximately July–October For the longest growing season and best crops, sow chillies early indoors. Sow approximately 5 mm deep into moist seed compost and maintain a consistently warm temperature. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant individually into small pots and gradually pot on as the plants develop. Provide plenty of light, warmth and regular feeding once flowering and fruiting begin. Fruits can be harvested green or allowed to fully ripen to red for greater sweetness and mature flavour.
